New illustration for Taz. Die Tageszeitung about eating disorders and abusive circles on the internet.
The young journalist C. Siepmann investigated a community that glorifies a toxic body image. Through social media, websites, messengers, and forums, young women encourage starving themselves, while male strangers “coach” them with oftentimes sexually abusive means.
The illustration focuses on the community’s ideal body image and the coaching process: a coach highlights flaws and changes on a female body. The image emphasizes the sheer vastness of alleged deficits. It was important to me to portray this sexualized issue without reproducing overly sexualized imagery.
